With the rapid development of wireless communication, the mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) has caused wide attention and research. And for a long time, routing protocol has been an issue under heated discussion and with great difficulty in the research of ad hoc networks.The current wireless MANET researches are mainly based on simulated experiments. This thesis is centered upon the specific technique for realization of ad hoc on-demand routing protocol, extrapolating the operating theory and the major operating processes of the AODV protocol. It also evaluated the typical routing protocol through glomosim simulation tools, aiming at most important metrics such as packet delivery rate, end-to-end delay and routing overload. The simulation results mainly indicate that AODV protocol has a good display of comprehensive capacity.Based upon the analysis of the realizing characteristics of routing protocols in Linux operating system, this thesis made deep exploration of the realizing technique and approaches of MANET which is in the embedded Linux system. After several common on-demand routing realizing scheme were summarized, a design of software based on the Netfilter function framework was accomplished, and has achieved the major processes such as the routing request, routing reply, routing updating and maintenance. With a design of embedded hardware platform and the support of wireless 802.11 netcard, the evaluating environment of MANET was established. On the testbed platform, measurement and evaluation about the transferring delay and the jitter of AODV were made. Finally, this thesis also analyzed the requirements of traffic and implements based on AODV, and the corresponding packet flows were presented.
