With the extensive application of Internet, there are more and more application of mutual network, audio and video mutual communication base on IP that is appreciated and regarded by more and more users. Thereinto,the Session Initiation Protocol(SIP) base on IP ,using HTTP and SMTP protocol for reference, has its distinct advantages: It is very concise in the structure, easy to be extended, good at Quality of Support and more suitable to access the Internet. Now it has more and more application.The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an application-layer control (signaling) protocol distributed by IETF for creating, modifying, and terminating sessions with one or more participants. SIP invitations used to create sessions carry session descriptions that allow participants to agree on a set of compatible media types. SIP makes use of elements called proxy servers to help route requests to the user's current location, authenticate and authorize users for services, implement provider call-routing policies. SIP also provides a registration function that allows users to upload their current locations for use by proxy servers. SIP runs on top of several different transport protocols. The paper do some research on the SIP and implement the audio and video mutual system based on SIP.In this theis, first introduce the generation, applications and advantages of SIP, its basic concepts, architecture and call flows. After explaining the SIP tracsaction. The paper combine some technology about real time protocal and the application of Web with SIP, propose the scheme of audio and video mutual system base on Web. Then, designed and implemented the system base on the JAIN SIP, include the SIP Proxy and SIP client. The application implemented on the Web by Java Applet, palyed the data of audio and video by JMF and real time transmission of data using RTP/RTCP. At last, tested the system in PC-to-PC VoIP mode in LAN.
