Erbium-doped fiber amplifier and laser are extremely important in optical fiber communication devices. At present, the various elements of the high concentration of co-doped erbium-doped fiber has become a hot research, because it can inhibit erbium ion concentration quenching, but also greatly improve the erbium ion concentration. As phosphate, tellurite host optical fiber can not be compatible with the current optical fiber communication system of silica host fiber, The main purpose of this paper is to test and analysis the properties of high concentration erbium doped silicate fiber.Main results of the thesis are:1. In this thesis, the test system of fluorescence lifetime is designed, and the shortcoming of this system for high concentration erbium doped fiber in the initial stage. Some kinds of fluorescence lifetime varying with Erbium ion density are tested, simulated, compared, and analyzed, which making a conclusion that the fluorescence lifetime of BiGaErAl doped fiber H477 is longer and the effect is better than any other co-doped fibers with the situation of the improvment of the Er3+ concentration.2. Using the temperature control device to control the temperature of erbium doped fiber with high concentration, the fluorescence lifetime varying from -20℃to 160℃with the same fiber are tested, simulated, and analyzed, which making a conclusion. The results aren't the best because of the error.3. The experimental testing system for the fluorescence intensity of Erbium-doped fiber changed with the temperature has been demonstrated. By changing the temperature of Erbium-doped fiber, we have tested the fluorescence intensity between -20℃to 160℃and have got the result: the ratio of the fluorescence intensity varys with the temperature monotonously, so the erbium doped fiber can be used in temperature sensors.4. The absorption coefficients of fibers have been tested accurately by using spectrum-loss Analyzer and the way of cutting off. The emission coefficients have been obtained according to the absorption coefficient and the theory of McCumber. Different FWHM of the fiber and the influence of fiber material on the gain spectrum of Erbium-doped fiber have been analysized by using the emission coefficients.5. Test system of Erbium-doped fiber emission coefficient has been set up. We got several emission coefficients of several erbium-doped fibers by experimental tests. Compared emission coefficient which got by experiment and calculated by absorption coefficient and McCumber theory, we get the level of erbium-doped fiber concentration quenching. The results are analyzed and compared; we conclude that the Quenching level of bismuth-gallium-aluminum co-doped high concentration erbium-doped fiber is lower than other ions co-doped high concentration erbium doped fiber.
