Along with the development of digitization of home electrical and electronic appliances, many kinds of these electrical and electronic appliances can be connected to construct an intelligent home network, providing more abundant and diverse life styles for people. The intelligent home network performs the internal home electrical,and electronic appliances networking and information exchange of external networks via the home gateway, with which makes the control of home electrical and electronic facilities easily. All electrical and electronic facilities in a home network can be centrally controlled by a home gateway using SIP protocol, accomplishing the functions of VoIP, video monitoring and digital desk-top box, etc.Sponsored by the fund of the Wuhan Research Institute of Posts & Telecommunication project named "extension and application study on SIP protocol in IMS architecture", this dissertation first discusses the SIP protocol, and analyses the feasibility of SIP application to the home gateway. As the signaling control protocol in upper layers, the differences between SIP and H.323 are also compared. Secondly, the realization scheme of a home gateway is designed on the HHBF561 development board of HuaHeng company. That scheme heavily relies on the OMAP (Open Multimedia Application Platform) of DSP+ARM embedded to the development board with the embedded Linux operation system. The dissertation emphasizes on the following aspects: operation system cutting, download and fire of the bootloader of a Linux platform, implementation of coding and decoding module for audio and video, and the build of network environment. The coding, network transmission and replayer of an audio signal with Linux Socket function are realized. Finally, the software debug and test are discussed, and the issues to be studied further are also presented.
