GPS (Global Positioning System) is a omnidirectional real-time navigation system. With the development of GPS skills, the high price and power consumption of PC positioning system can not meet the needs of the social development, hence the embedded positioning technology separated from PC port is developing rapidly. Nowadays, the embedded hardware platform with ARM processor as main CPU has almost become the hardware criterion for the information industry. Therefore, embedde system composed of ARM processor-based hardware platform and embedded operation system has been widely used in the fields of national defense, consuming electronics, internet communication, industrial control and so on. This thesis is to study and realize the development of GPS positioning based on ARM.This thesis is to study the following three technologies: Firstly, the introduction to GPS technology, which explains the development, principles, characteristics, system components and positioning means of GPS technology. Secondly, the building of the hardware platform is based on ARM. Thirdly, detailed description to the development of Windows CE operation system.The hardware platform uses ARM920T-cored S3C2440A from Samsung Corporation as microprocessor, and complete the design of peripheral devices according to the system requirement, including the design of 64M NAND Flash,64MSDRAM,SD card, communication circuit between USB and serial port. While GPS module uses GPS receptionist of GPS25LVS 12 channels, describes the communication port and statistic pattern of GPS and ARM. The hardware system design is a redundancy design, which provides room for the future upgrading.Windows CE operation system is chosen for the embedded operation system. This thesis introduced the development of Boot Loader during the platform transplant, the modification of OAL layer, the driver development with serial ports, keyboards and LCD driver as examples, and the detailed customization procedure of the core. During the development of application procedures, the SDK deriving procedure from PB and the debugging of EVC application process is introduced, too.
