Abstract/Summary:
Gamut mapping is a very important technique in the color management, which effects the color reproduction between different display devices. The traditional color gamut mapping solved the mapping form a large color gamut to a smaller one. But accompanied with the development of technique, Wide Color Gamut Display Devices are becoming popular. However, we can't get a perfect image if we just directly show the traditional TV signals on the wide color gamut display, in that case, the gamut mapping form the smaller to the big one which is so called"Gamut Extension"has become an issue. Gamut Extension made several kinds of TV standards can be used during the picturing, transporting and displaying. By using this method, we can get a colorful and vivid image on the wide color gamut display. So, the signification and arithmetic of gamut extension are proposed in the paper. And a fast LUT architecture based on tetrahedron interpolation is described, which is suitable for real time systems. The highly nonlinear algorithm has been replaced by the integrated 3-D LUT. In contrast with the traditional cube interpolation algorithm, the new architecture brings a higher speed but lower hardware cost.
