The barcode technology has been developing rapidly and has been used in various trades. With the development of technology, the 1D barcode can no longer meet the society's needs because of its limitary information capacity and dependence on the database, so the various 2D barcode came into use, among which the PDF417 barcode is most widely used.This thesis discusses the recognition of PDF417 2D barcode. The recognition system is composed of a reader and decode DSP. The reader is an image one, which is designed with black and white digital sensor chip OV7620 manufactured by OmniVision Company. The reader transforms the barcode image into digital information and then transfers it to DSP.The image dispose and identification program on the DSP transforms the digital information into barcode code. At last, the decode program decodes the barcode code with PDF4l7 decode algorithm and displays the decode result.Experiment shows that the 2D barcode recognition system is satisfactory when dealing withstandard ASCII PDF417 barcode.
