The virtual environment, which is also called Image-Based Space, is the base of virtual reality. The article founds the virtual environment based on basal data that is obtained from solid view picture taken from much angle of view by camera.Compared with traditional geometry-based virtual environment, image-based virtual space has some advantages, such as easily constructing, fast protracting, reality, and so on. It emphasizes the concept of view space on the first phase in collecting data and proposes an environmental system model of "reality and virtually", which improves the real feeling to the new environment.However, the free degree of image-based space is limited by real images, for the basic data are the images. How to ramble in the environment is the key to the research on virtual environment.The main work on the above issues referred in this paper is:1. We have proposed a series of theories and technique based on multi-view virtual environment, and described in detail the characteristics, the process of construction and establishment of virtual environment.2. We have optimized the virtual realistic system model, and brought the method of combining reality and virtually into the construction of virtual environment. Taking the forming process of virtual environment as two big modules makes the virtual realistic system model more intuitive and the forming process of virtual environment more intuitive and more concrete.3. We have modified some existing local algorithms, and got an algorithm of 360-degrees cylindrical panoramic image which includes cylindrical projection algorithm, image matching algorithm, seamless linking algorithm and cylindrical to planer projection algorithm.
