Electronics map is the import part of vehicle navigation system, and it is the foundation of human interface. The basic graphics engine and symbol database system are major parts of electronical map. Design and realization of basic graphics engine and GIS symbol database are the foundations of geography information displaying quickly and correctly. Currently, the common symbol library can't satisfy the request of vehicle navigation system, so need to develop a map display engine.This thesis according to the characteristics of navigation map, design and realize the most basic 2D graphics library. Algorithm of drawing line is the foundation of drawing line symbols. Line algorithms which have different line width and types are designed and realized on studying classic line algorithms, and propose faster improvement algorithm. In this thesis, several key problems on drawing line symbols have been solved. Also, polygon fill algorithm is the key technique of drawing region symbol. On studying the original scanning fill algorithms, the author design relevant fill algorithms for difference region symbols,and it is more effective than original algorithms. According to result and effect, it is effective of the algorithms proposing in this thesis.On deep studying character and construction principle of point symbol, line symbol and region symbol, give the definition of map symbol library. Combine the request of embedded system, designing and realizing a symbol library which adapte to vehicle navigation system. And fast algorithms of line symbol and region symbol are designed and realized.
