As the fast development of wireless sensor networks (WSN), it's been widely used. WSN is developed form Ad Hoc. The traditional networks aim to better QOS and bandwidth, while WSN aims to low energy-consuming. Thus, the existing routing protocols can not be used in WSN, new, data oriented; low energy-consuming protocols must be designed. In this paper, I studied IEEE 802.15.4 standard and the existing topologies, focusing on tree mode topology, peer to peer topology and their routing protocols, analyzed how can the topology affect on the energy-consuming in networks. Base on these studies on network layer, this paper designed and implemented low energy-consuming solutions.Firstly, this paper studied on the existing technologies in the field of wireless sensor networks, then introduced the existing routing protocols such as Beaconed Tree Mode Routing Protocol, LEACH, AODV and so on. After the analysis, the author made discussions on Beacon, short address management and low energy consuming. Then defined the tasks on network layer, such as topology management, short address management and routing.Secondly, this paper designed the functionality of different nodes and the state machine, implemented beaconed tree mode topology and the corresponding routing protocol. The Mesh topology in this paper is Non-Beacon based, nodes are also classified, and AODV routing protocol is applied on Router. At last, this paper tested the energy consuming of systems, discussed the key factors that affect the energy consuming.
