Mobile communication technologies have seen great development in the recent twenty years. It not only brought great convenience in our everyday life but also slowly changed our life style because of its development in communication field. Owing to the ever increasing demand of mobile communications by human, mobility management technology is facing new challenge. In studying how to advance mobility management strategies, the problem of location management merges. This paper first gave a summation of the relative research work, narrated the algorithm in detail. The research work of the author is as follows.Under the relative research work, this paper designed a simulation platform for discrete event simulation based on simulation theory of mobile communication network. This paper first described the flowchart of simulation, that is (1) defining the system model, and (2) defining the metrics needed to evaluate the performance, and (3) simulating using dynamic, static, continues or discrete methods, and then carried out simulation of location management strategies by detailed mobility management modeling, call flow modeling, cellular structure modeling and the strategy modeling, defined a simplified performance metrics which is the total cost of location update and call transfer, described the discrete simulation programming method. The fourth chapter of this paper proposed a dynamic location update strategy according to the mobile terminal's mobility patterns, that is allocate dynamic rectangular LAs according to the velocity of vehicular obtained by GPS and kalman filter, of which the axes according to the direction of velocity and the shape according to the value of velocity . We compared the performance of the proposed strategy with dynamic circular LAs with traditional circular shaped LAs, showing a better performance of the proposed strategy.
