| In wireless mobile system, due to the mobility of mobile users, their points of attachment to the networks change constantly. Therefore, how to track mobiles effectively and economically and how to provide them with real-time, low cost, high quality and optimal services, i.e. Mobility management, become a international challenging frontier. Undoubtedly, mobility management is significant for mobile communication networks to work effectively and efficiently.Mobility management consists of location management and handoff management. This paper focus on the former. Based on layered location areas and ring search scheme and a controllable parameter, a new controllable ring search scheme is proposed. Furthermore, a set of linear equations, which the probabilities of a mobile residing each ring meet, is derived by means of a Markov process. Numerical analysis shows that the proposed scheme can decrease location update and accordingly reduce the cost of location management by adjusting the controllable parameter according to mobiles' call-to-mobility ratio. In addition, the scheme is applicable to the mobiles with low call-to-mobility ratio.The first chapter gives an overview of the concept of mobile communication network and mobility management.In chapter 2, a thorough analysis of the principles for location management including location area update, paging is introduced. In addition the methods, sort and research actuality of location management methods are also described.The third chapter researches on the main technique of mobility management including location register and call transfer, paging capacity of location area and partition of location area edge.A dynamic location area management method using layered location areas and ring search scheme is proposed in chapter 4 to reduce the cost of location management.The chapter 5 studies on the application of mobility management in Railways GSM-R network.The last chapter draws a conclusion and points out the fields for further study. |
