McLuhan's Media Theories From The Viewpoint Of Medienphilosophie

When exploring the media relationship between us and the world, McLuhan is a monument that can not be ignored. Medienphilosophie in Germany inherited and developed McLuhan's medium theories based on the understanding of the medium and information, in turn, it gaves more profound analysis and interpretation in philosophical sense to the medium theories of McLuhan. From this viewpoint, this paper analyzed the medium theories of McLuhan, and discussed the media relationship between us and the world under the new media environment of network today.McLuhan examined the essence characteristic of medium in intersubjectivity, and built up his theoretical system according to answer the questions including what is medium,what media has done,how media has done,how the media evolve, and what is the function of media. In his research career, his devotional faith of Catholicism has profound effect to his theory.McLuhan is the founder of Medienphilosophie which has important significance. The focus of his research on medium theories is the essential topic of Medienphilosophie: media relationship between human and the world. From this point of view, the Media Analysis and the two schools of traditional Communication------Experimental School and Criticism School------compose three schools of twoaspects of Communication. Comparing with the two traditional schools, the Media Analysis shows its value and its firm status. In addition, according to the definition of Philosophies of Science on " the determinism of technology", in term of the matching medium theories of McLuhan, this paper re-understands the inaccurate evaluation for " the determinism of technology" of McLuhan.Finally, based on McLuhan's theories and relevant theories of Medienphilosophie, this paper expatiate the limitation of McLuhan's theories in the digital age, and conclude that the relationship between human and the world is "symbiotic" relationship under the new media condition,and the communication in dummy world has profound significance to our practical life.
