Artificial Intelligence is a branch of Computer Science which studies how to make machine intelligent, especially in computer simulation and realizing human being intelligence. Expert System that is knowledge processing system has three major categories which are knowledge representation, utilizing knowledge and obtaining knowledge. Expert System is a mature application field of Artificial Intelligence. It focuses on knowledge, and so is called knowledge based system.Agriculture Expert System, that is Agriculture Intelligent System, is an intelligent computer decision system which combines the technologies of Expert System and the characteristics of Agriculture. The Intelligent Corn Information Processing System is a sub-system of Shanxi Province Intelligent Agriculture Information Processing System which is funded by National 863 Project. The Corn Intelligent System consists of the intelligent decision sub-system which is also called Com Expert System and multimedia information sub-system.The core of the Platform for Agricultural Intelligent-system Development is Agriculture Expert System developing platform, which adopts the structure of Browser/WebServer/Database. On the basis of the Platform for Agricultural Intelligent-system Development, Corn Expert System adopts fuzzy production system to represent knowledge with uncertain reasoning and the method of hybrid inference engine. At the same time, the multimedia sub-system is completed by the technologies of Dreamweaver, Realproducer, and so on. The system effectively solves the problem of huge amount of corn knowledge and its multimedia information, and has gained the respect after its application.The Platform for Agricultural Intelligent-system Development (PAID) mainly used in developing normative agriculture Expert System, providing a convenient developing tools and environment, could effectively decrease the developing cycle and increase the quality of Expert System. Its main methods are using of SQL in Relational Database System to realize intelligent decision. It is, convenient for developing Expert System, however, because of the complexities of agriculture, we also discover the disadvantages, for example, improper knowledge representation, implicit inference engine, etc. According to different methods of constructing Expert System, there will be different characteristics. After developing Corn Expert System on PAID, this paper also talks about the method of constructing Expert System in Artificial Intelligence Programming Language by implementing two modules of Corn Expert System. By the means of comparing with two different methods, it demonstrates the main emphasis should be laid on knowledge representation and computer processing in order to construct an excellent Expert System.
