Chinese TV industry, which is at a transitional stage, takes on various shapes, while "drastic competitions in the same city—Derby Wars" which are taking place within the provincial capitals have drawn much attention after extending from newspaper industry to TV field. The competition centred on news and target audiences in provincial capitals inevitably results in the face-to-face battle in the same city among TV stations of the provincial capital, provincial satellite TV and non-satellite TV channel. To some extent, the competition in the same city between provincial media and municipal media has become the ordinary and typical local competition situation of Chinese TV. This TV industry and policy system, which are left over by central-provincial-municipal-county system, are still exerting strong or even decisive influences on the development pattern and the fundamental orientation of Chinese TV and determine the long existence of the competition within the same city in the future. |
