Since the 1990s, agent has been becoming a hotspot within research on distributed artificial intelligence, computer science and information technology. As multi-agent technology owns unsurpassed expression for complex system and it provides a unified model for various practical systems, its applications are very broad. Research on implementation platform for multi-agent, which serves an important component of research on multi-agent, is currently limited to the formal structure of multi-agent. And existing implementation platforms for multi-agent are built on the desktop PC with non-real-time operating system. In response to these problems, we presented a solution of embedded agent implementation based on the PC/104 bus and Windows CE operating system. We have carried out the agent node from three levels: system hardware, system software and application software.Finally we introduce agent-based approach into intelligent building control area, and complete experiments for embedded multi-agent system through software.In this paper, we recall applications of embedded technology in control areas, elaborated theories about agent and multi-agent. The multi-agent technology applications and research on multi-agent implementation platform are also summed up. We analyze the reasonableness of the embedded system serve as a platform for running multi-agent and propose ideas of designing an embedded agent node. In the studies come up, we give the overall structure of embedded agent control node's hardware which is based on the PC/104 bus. We also elaborate process, principles and attention issues through transplantation and customization of Windows CE OS and derived SDK of the platform. After hardware and software in the system-level of the platform have been set up, we use a modular method to design application layer software of an embedded multi-agent system. We give specific development process of data acquisition module, implementation module and display module of the system using EVC tool.We also introduce agent-based approach into the field of intelligent building control in this paper. We take the temperature, ventilation and illumination parameter of an intelligent building as an example, establishing an intelligent building control model based on a pure distributed multi-agent construction. Finally, we carry out simulation experiment for temperature control and illumination control on the Windows CE-based embedded platform. We have carried out multi-agent on an embedded platform from the level of hardware and software. At the same time, we have elaborated the processes of transplantation and customization of Windows CE OS, and we have given the development processes of application software on this platform. It would be helpful for others who want to develop Windows CE-based embedded systems in future.
