With the development of computer and network technique, more and more systems have been developed to support the office work in universities. There are mainly two kinds of system used in the office work, the Office Automation System (OAS), which helps to share information and make office work automatic, and the Management Information System (MIS), which helps to deal with special tasks. Usually, both of the OAS and MIS should be used during office works, but all systems are developed independently at present, the lack of association between systems causes many discommodious nesses. To support office work better, there should be an associated application environment.This paper analyses the need of integration of the support system for office work in universities, and designs an application environment that composed by a base function support platform, an Office Information Platform (OIP) and many management information systems. As the core module of the environment, the OIP implements the integration of information by congregating and re-organizing information, to congregate information, both pre-fetch and dynamic search technique are used, and a flexible classification mechanism is designed to support the information re-organizing. The OIP also improves current workflow management system and designs the management mechanism of remote function calls and external flow embedding to support the workflow integration. The basic components of a uniform user interface for office work is also discussed. Besides, the alterations that existing systems should take to work with OIP are referred.This paper implements some core module of OIP and some parts of the work have been put into actual use.
