21st century is the era of knowledge-based economy. Knowledge-based economy, based on the production, dissemination and application of Knowledge and information, will dominant the world's economic development. Comprehensive national strength and international competitiveness depend more ond more on the level of the education development, science technology and knowledge innovation. Education will be showing a more prominent role in the process of economic and social development. On the other hand, as modern science and technology develop rapidly, the world information wave is unstoppable. It rapidly extended to nearly every field such as national defense, scientific research and economy. It is inevitably changing the traditional mode of education. The integration of information and education has become the organic component in today's education reform and development, while the computer-network-oriented modern information technology is an essential foundation to the education modernization.Education—an eternal theme at any age-has had a qualitative change because of the development of modern high-tech a qualitative change. The current vigorous development of domestic campus network told us to the fact: The future education will turn from traditional "class" education to online education.The campus network is the beginning of this great change. Education desires"online", too. China education is promoting its electronic level at an unprecedented pace and power.Those projects, such as campus network and education resource centre, which can realize Computer-teaching and Distance-teaching by using of modern high-tech, are being designed and built.Campus Network building is to meet the needs of knowledge-based economy times to promote quality education. In the cross-century education reform, most of the countries are accelerating the pace of modernization of education. Its level of education information has become an important symbol to value the comprehensive national strength. To speed up education information reform, the school edcation should be integrated with family education and social education, especially the hidden education of the mass media. And the multi-level development and rational allocation of human and material resources in education should be realised. The building campus network by using modern educational technology and creating a fresh atmosphere aims to implement of the strategic status of education Campus network is connected to a lot of information points including school buildings, office buildings, training House, libraries, student dormitory and staff living quarters. A large number of businesses, such as school management,education and scientific research, e-learning, tele-education, the introduction of the internet and technological exchanges and cooperation with foreign services, are required that the campus network must be a practical, highly reliable, efficient, scalable and high-security system.As China vigorously speeds up the pace of developing vocational education, Hunan Vocational College of Engineering is also working rapid. Whether from area colleges, the number of students, or teaching facilities and other aspects, It has had a lot of development. The original campus network can not meet the normal demand for the teaching and work. A new planning and construction is urgently needed on the basis of the original campus network.This paper analyses the current network equipment, applications and the deficiencies in Hunan Vocational College of Engineering.The construction target has been put up.It also states the application demands from the problems which the campus network should solve and its specific contents of the needs. The focus of this paper is the planning and design of the network system. On the basis of the Campus Network Topography, the related equipment has been selected, which has considered the design concept and design principles of the campus network, network systemdesign features and technical analysis and technical requirements. The core of the campus network switches is 10 Gigabit Switch 8800 Series switches. Convergence of the switch in the living quarters of students selected Quidway S5516 Gigabit Routing Switch. Other regional chooses Quidway S3928P smart flexibility Ethernet switches.While H3C S2126 Switch is used for the access layer. According to the server technical parameters, We have selected six IBM System p5510Q rack-mounted servers, VOD server, accounting server, data server, web server, dns serverand backup servers.Network management planning is another significant part. Based on the brief introduction, network management planning is made from the following aspects: domain management, management strategy and firewall management of the campus network. The billing system, bandwidth management and traffic control of the campus network are also planned.The last part of this paper makes a conclusion from the characteristics, availability and manageability of design and planning business. The writer's initial design ideas can be realised successfully.
