With the expanse of network and increase of heterogeneous degree, it becomes more important that network can run securely and stead steadily. In this paper based on network topology, network fault location system is investigated and the algorithms of each functional module are proposed. Firstly in topology discovery subsystem, a method of physical network topology discovery is proposed based on hierarchical mobile agent, and its response time and cost have a definite advantage compared with traditional method and it meets the requirement of network dynamics. According to network topology, a method of alarm correlation based on dependency search tree is presented in alarm correlation subsystem. And aiming at the alarms that have low correlation after alarm correlation, a fault location algorithm is proposed based on greedy algorithm and it is still applicable when many faults occur. In the end, the result of practical example and experimental analysis proves that this system can analyze alarm information and locate faults rapidly and exactly.
