Investment Efficiency Calculation Engine Reengineering In Financial Systems

Financial system is the core for many modern financial corporations. It stores client data, implements the business rule and reflects the analysis result of data. But it is becoming more and more complex and huge all the time. First of all, from the technology perspective, financial application must tackle with huge data volume with complex structure. So for the most of time, the performance of the calculation engine is not very satisfactory. Second, from the business perspective, it takes time for the technician staff to fully understand the business rules of the system. Besides, financial performance criteria are changing with time. So we must follow up timely. Third, financial system is not an isolated system. In order to update database, financial system need to communicate with other data vendors.In different project teams of one corporation, even the main functionality of calculation engines and the majority of the clients are the same, the calculation engines might be implemented quite differently as well. In order to make the reports consistency and use the more powerful calculation engine, we should migrate data and incorporate calculation engine even the whole system sometimes. Because of large data volume, complex database structure and different logic of calculate engine, it is a very challenging job. Besides, if the requests are not properly handled, it will cause performance issue for the clients. So the reengineering of calculation engine greatly influences the service quality that provided to the clients.We need an efficient and reliable way to do system reengineering though it is very challenging. In this paper, the author focuses on one project of a famous financial services corporation. It introduces how to migrate database, incorporate calculation engine, do performance optimization, as well as how to design and implement the automation test.
