In recent years, infrared image sequences are applied widely to many domains. However, much noise and low contrast have a bad impact on image quality because of the inherent character of infrared detectors. In order to improve the image sequence quality, the technique of infrared image sequences enhancement based on wavelet transform is introduced.The process of enhancement consists of three component elements: de-noising based on wavelet, image fusion, contrast enhancement based on multi-scale wavelet transform. Because the wavelet transform has character of multi-scale, multi-resolution analysis and time-domain localize, image enhancement methods based on wavelet transform can improve conventional methods of image enhancement. This paper studied the application of wavelet transform to every component element and then finds the suitable methods of infrared image sequence enhancement. At the same time this paper presents some new methods or improved methods: In de-noising, de-noising method based on wavelet de-noising functions and inter-frame correlation is presented in light of sequence images'relevance. In image fusion, the method of image fusion based on minimum gradient median filter functions is presented. In contrast enhancement based on multi-scale wavelet transform, existing method of contrast enhancement is improved according to characteristics of infrared images. The experimental results show that these methods above are effective. At last, integrated method is presented according to the result of analysis. The experimental results show that the integrated method presented here is effective.In addition, the simulation software is designed for the methods analyzed or presented in this paper. The simulation software can emulate all the methods used in this paper and calculate relational parameters. It ensures the reliability of methods.
