With the popularization of the Internet, the enrichment of its service contents and the increasing enhancement of the interactive effects, WWW is not only a platform for releasing contents but moreover a service platform. Particularly in recent years, with the price of storage hardware keeping going down and the Internet access speed keeping going up, the application of providing large-capacity network storage service has emerged.Targeting to the current service environment and service patterns, this paper designes and implements a large network storage system. The system integrates network space, e-mail, SMS, and online contact list in one, allowing storage extending from local to the Internet. The system is featured with uploading, downloading and sending big files. File retrieving is quite frequent and information access volume is big. Aiming to these characteristics, this paper suggests a two-layer load balance strategy, which not only takes into account of the load balance as a whole, but also takes care of the load of certain areas. Based on that, a load balance arithmetic is designed, which takes into account of the performance of the server and the network environment. It adopts dynamic feedback technology and improves the performance and effect of load balance by confirming the service-refused area of each server. It has been proved by tests that the strategy and arithmetic suggested are able to balance the loading status of each node.Meanwhile, the system uses NFS (network file system) and call for RPC service remotely, actualizing file sharing and network storage among different systems. It uses simple network management protocol (SNMP) to develop the system operation monitoring program. After three phases of development, we have improved the core structure of the large network storage system and the design of the database. The main features have been realized and the payment platform as well as the interface to the external payment channel has been developed. So far, the system has been under trial running for seven months successfully and registered users over 30,000. The operation result has shown that the technology of the system is mature and the system is stable. Our design is fully in compliance with the requirements of the system.
