| Nowadays, Web has become the main information resource. However, it is not easy for people to get the really information on the web with the increasing data, therefore, it becomes very important that let computers understand the meaning of data and provide convenience for people to search for data that they need indeed.Under this background, Tim Berners-Lee who invented Web advanced the conceive of Semantic Web in 1998. It would be an extension of today's web, well-defined meaning would be put in messages, so computers could understand the messages, consequently the cooperation that between people and computers would become very well. Semantic Web would adopt multi-level framework to achieve its goal. Ontology locates in the level from textual description to knowledge-based reasoning. So it is the key for Semantic Web to construct ontology.Ontological theories and methods have been studied roundly in the dissertation on the basis of a large number of documents. The study was mainly focus on the differences and relations between thesaurus and ontology, how to build domain ontology by using thesaurus and so on. In this paper, the contributions made include the following three aspects:Firstly, systematically expounding and comparing several building ontology approaches that usually to be used, and then thesaurus-based approach for building domain ontology was proposed, which can alleviate the amount of work involved in building domain ontology.Secondly, the thesaurus-based approach for building ontology was expatiated by building a pomology ontology with the base of Agriculture Science Thesaurus,Finally, by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of several ordinary tools of building ontology, Protege3.2.1 was used to build the pomology ontology.This paper studies the modeling of ontology on the basis of the thesaurus from different views of theoretical and practical layers. The author thinks it has advantages to construct ontology on the basis of the thesaurus. |
