Research On Maritime Ontology Construction Based On Thesaurus And FCA

An ontology is a formal specification of a conceptualization, a crucial component in knowledge management and organizational learning. Despite the widespread ontology-related research and applications, developing domain ontologies remains a challenging issue. There are some problems that excessive reliance on the participation of domain experts, the complexity of building, and efficiency of construction. Ontology construction for undeveloped domains, such as the maritime domain, which have no structural resources in existence, becomes even more difficult and time-consuming.After comparing and analyzing the existing methods of domain ontology construction, this paper puts foward a new method of maritime ontology construction based on thesaurus and FCA.which mainly consists of four processes:the initial core ontology design, Formal Concept Analysis, ontology consummation and ontology maintenance. Constructive part of the initial core ontology is in the domain analysis of two subject thesaurus under the concept of waterway transport and the relationship and then constructed the initial core ontology of the maritime field. The part reduced participation of experts in the field and makes the development process more efficient. Formal concept analysis section makes use of benefits of formal concept analysis (FCA) dealing with the invisible concepts and the relationship, to get the concept of maritime text that the relation of ontology concept hierarchy relationship; the part of ontology consummation adds a new concept arising from the formal concept analysis (FCA) element and relation to the initial core ontology, and then gets our target ontology-maritime ontology. Ontology maintenance part is the consistent inspection of accomplished maintains ontology and further edition. Finally, on that basis, the paper has designed and accomplished construction system of maritime domain ontology and verified the technical feasibility of the method.The method of maritime ontology construction can not only speed up the ontology constructive process, but also improve the accuracy of the ontology, normalization, scientific. The method made a discovery for the study of the maritime field in ontology. However, there is lots of improved work to do in future. Meanwhile more and more scholars will be concerned about this subject.
