Water level monitoring system plays a very important part in water civil observation and the safety of the structures diagnosis. Over years, people try to find a more convenient and reliable method for water level monitoring. A better water level monitoring method can make people much easier and show the accurate information of water level with the minimum cost. So, people can make a decision soon after getting the water level information.A variety of remote water level monitoring systems were designed out because of the rapid development of embedded system and wireless communication technology, which bring much convenient to people. There are some limitations to water level monitoring method which people used before, because these methods can not meet the needs of each application. That is to say, these methods designed for some special situations and not for every application. According to the need of Dalian North Station Plaza groundwater monitoring project, this article designs out a wireless water level monitoring system based on ZigBee. This system not only meets the needs of people right now, but also provides an excellent development platform for future.This article analyses the actual needs of users and latest research results of embedded system and wireless communication technology. Then, a water level monitoring system which based on ARM, CDMA and ZigBee has been designed out. And this system has multi-storey structure. First of all, the overall structural design and delineation of functional modules have been carried out. Secondly, this article designs hardware platform and shows the detail how to make the platform. Thirdly, software and communication protocol used in this system are designed out. At the same time, people may realize how the software works by watching the flowchart in this article. Finally, rigorous testing of the system has been carried out to make sure the system is correct and reliable. After finishing the system, this article makes a summary of the work and proposes the parts that should be improved and the prospects of future work.
