Objective Design and develop a browser in smart device with Windows CE operating system, based on Client/Server model, to achieve the wireless query,retrieval and updating of medical information, and deal with the medical image.Materials and Methods We use Pocket PC with Windows CE operating System as the application carrier, Visual Studio 2003.NET as the tool of application designing, and SQL Server 2000 as the database in Web server. It includes three subsection as following: (1) Get the Web server and smart device exchange data successfully, and perfect the database configuration of Web server: (2) Develop and debug the soft of medical image browser with smart device by using Client/Server model: (3) Deploy the application.Result We have developed a medical image browser for mobile phone with Windows CE operating system. The smart device users can implement the query,retrieval and updating of medical information and deal with the medical image anytime and anywhere. It also insured the real time communication between Web server and clients.Conclusion Comparing with the traditional PACS,the wireless PACS embedded in Pocket PC can install and be manipulated easily. This controller can be of use for enhancing image management with nearly no restriction in time and location using various wireless communication modes. Clinicians and other health care professionals can remain in touch with workflow status both inside and outside the hospital. And the work efficiency can be upgraded by the function of real time communication.
