With the development of the computer network technology and database technology,the LAN-based paperless testing system is becoming increasingly valued due to its object,fairness, security and accuracy. The paperless testing system can automatically organizethe testing paper by its self-established question base on the concerned course-thecomputer automatically completes each step from preparing the questions to judging thepapers. Compared with the traditional written test, the test itself is a computer operatingprocess, which raises the students' ability in practice on the computer and reveals thestudents' real level, meanwhile saving efforts and materials and realizing the separation oftesting from teaching and raising the efficiency of test and the teaching management.Besides, the Client/Server- based LAN test not only enhances the reliability of the system,avoiding test questions or the answers get lost due to the damage of the floppy disk, butalso breaks through the limitation of the objective questions as the question patterns in thenetwork test based on Web, compared with many tests on the single computer dependingon the floppy disk as the saving media.With analysis on present applied status and shortness of various paperless testingsystem at home and abroad on the course "College Computer Information Technology",this paper has designed a LAN exam system based on C/S structure. On this basis, a verypractical paperless network examination system is implemented. The specific research andpractice work in the paper mainly includes the following:Specifically analyzing the fact that "College Computer Information Technology" isfeatured with both theory and operation as well as rich variety and strongcomprehensiveness in the operation test, meanwhile considering the factors that thelocations of the intramural test are relatively fixed and the number of the computerrooms is restricted, the paper determined to adopt is tested based on LAN. Thepaper makes the further research on the feasibility of implementation under environment of concemed software and hardware.(?) A detailed analysis on the designing of the question base and generation of the testpapers. The question base and the test paper are made to be as scientific andreasonable as possible, and reflect the syllabus for course "College ComputerInformation Technology" and the requirements of distribution of knowledge pointsin the Jiangsu Computer Grade Test; considering both the scope and the depth ofthe questions and the appropriateness of the actual level among the junior collegestudents and fully reflect the students' theoretical knowledge and operating ability.(?) A detailed study on the principles of network communication and datatransmission based on TCP/IP between the server and the multi-users under the C/Sstructure, and an analysis on the features in data transmission and the systemimplementation under the mode of blocking and non-blocking, and designing a datacommunication program of higher efficiency and easy implementation.(?) An analysis and research on the file structure in Word, Excel and PowerPoint ofMicrosoft Office 2000, dealing with the various data access in the examinationsystem with the OLE technology, and the implementation of the automaticjudgment to the operating questions.(?) A further discussion on the security and reliability in designing Access 2000database. Instead using the protecting methods by the password for the databasewhich is easy to decode, the paper gives out a method to protect database with theworkgroup information file through the security mechanism in Access 2000workgroup, which manages to solve the security problem for the database.
