As the rapid development of computer, computer technique has been widely applied in each social realm. In the promotion of modern computer technique, computer graphics has playing an important part in it. In computer graphics and geometry model, we often meet some complex models. When we deal with these complex models, there are many difficulties including display, network transmission, hardware, and so on. Considering the success of multiresolution models in mesh simplification, LOD technology and the potential support for progressive transmission, in this dissertation, we study multiresolution simplification of complex models.In the beginning, in this article, we have analyzed the basic technologies of mesh simplification and multiresolution technologies. Specially, we have discussed two kinds of mesh simplification algorithms. One is based on edges collapsed; the other is based on triangle collapsed. Then, we improve the two kinds of mesh simplification algorithms in the process of implementing multiresolution models based on progressive meshes. By decomposing with these methods, these complex models are represented low-resolution meshes. And they can be noted interrelated details. And, on the basis of above algorithms, we study the simplification algorithm with additional properties. We generate LOD models by simplifying models in the case of colors and textures are thought. Finally, it introduces efficient view-dependent meshing criteria based on the view-frustum, back-face and screen-space geometric error. And the simplification algorithm on progressive meshes is developed according to these criteria.With the popular and development of 3D models, it accompanies with a great demand on storage and complexity handling. Therefore, it which is presented model with multiresolution simplification technology is becoming a favorite focus. Through these, storage size and the computation time can be reduced; the burden for network transmission and hardware can be lower.
