The rapid development of mobile communication technology makes traditionary network more flexible and unsteady. Users can access database and receive their query results through all kinds of wireless connection, and as a result, mobile computing has emerged. Compared with traditionary distributed computing, mobile computing has to face many new challenges. Location management is an important problem that relates with moving and disconnection in mobile computing. That is also one of key technologies of mobile database. From two factors of location management: location update and location query, this paper analyses all kinds of existed strategies, introduces study hotspot Agent technology and considers influence factor of location management: stability, locality and CMR (Call Move Ratio)and so on. This paper deeply analyses the sysytem of MDM2 and LBS, then proposes a model of location management based on Agent technology. The new model bases on MDM2 and optimizes the model and improves on it:In order to effectively carry out hand off of mobile client, the model establi-shes three work modes: mobile client, new agent server of mobile client and former agent server of mobile client. In order to fully apply agent technology and forwarding pointer technology, the paper embodies structure of agent ,and under the same cost of database and network ,the model makes operation localized, reducing communication distance further reducing cost of network. Finally this paper tests feasibility and applicability of the model. In LAN, work process of this model is simulated and the result proves its feasibility. Through theory analysis, the optimal application range of this model is that CMR is high and mobile client is far from its primary agent.
