Location based service is an important approach in popular use for the spatial information service, and a development tendency of communication and navigation.The LBS integrates with modern advance information technologies such as mobile phone or satellite position, Web GIS, mobile database, artificial intelligence and embedded multimedia computer technology et al. It can provide all-around position information services for the public, individual and enterprise. For example, it can supply road lead, emergency aided, guard against theft and alarm, information query, vehicle monitoring and dispatching, wireless connecting Internet, mobile office and commerce et al. With the rising of the LBS, anyone could get anything from the Internet on anytime and anywhere by all kinds of mobile equipments. As an important part of the future information service, the LBS have widely market future and society application value.In the future, the LBS users will increase rapidly. All of mobile communication users in the world will be the potential users of the location-based service. So it is the vital question that how to found a LBS system which can satisfy the accessing of large numbers of consumers and provide the querying and integrating of huge information. It needs to research the LBS system framework and distributed computing model, and build a distributive LBS system that suit for the varying user environment. Therefore, our researches focus on this question. The dissertation proposes the idea building the LBS system with mobile agent. Moreover, the thesis discusses the key technology widely. The main achievements of this paper include the aspects as follows:(1) Firstly, the paper introduces the development, application and study status in domestic and overseas for the mobile agent. Furthermore the advantages and disadvantages are summarized about many kinds traditional distributed computing models. The advantages of distributed computing models, which bases on mobile agent in the Internet circumstance, are analyzed. (2) The progresses of LBS in domestic and overseas are introduced, and the key technologies are discussed in the process on building the location-based service. In this paper, the vital technologies mainly include mobile position, LBS application platform, GIS and mobile communication.(3) The distributed LBS framework and functions design are studied in the thesis. The LBS system based on mobile agent is devised. Its basic components, logic structure and data process are analyzed. The main function and interior structure are planed in detail with all parts of the LBS system, moreover, the structure, function, and class of agent are analyzed. At last, for the sake of satisfying the customers with different mobile terminal, four modes of accessing the LBS system are devised and can offer the uniform location information services to the LBS customers.(4) The key theories and technologies are researched with applying the mobile agent to the LBS. These works include how to implement the migration of the mobile agent from one host to another host, how to fulfill the communication between different mobile agents, how to process the load balance and the system safety. In the paper the corresponding means are given with these questions. The diffident phase in the life circle of mobile agent is finite and distinguishable, so the finite state machine fits into control the run of mobile agent. At last, the classes and interfaces are defined to implement the mobile agent with object-oriented design using JAVA.
