Grid is a hot topic in distributed computing field. The real and specific problem that underlies the Grid concept is coordinated resource sharing and problem solving in dynamic, multi-institutional virtual organizations. Considerable progress has been made on the construction of such an infrastructure, and the Grid concept has been widely accepted and refined.Resource discovery is a basic problem in Grid resource management, which concerns discovering resources in Grid to meet the requirement of applications. As resource in grid is distributed, vast in type and amount, dynamic and heterogeneous, the resource discovery should be un-centralized controlled, distributed, expand, self-organized, high-efficient. And it also should have the ability to meet the dynamic change of resource.Based on the comparative analysis on resource discovery mechanism of existing grid system, as well as Web Service, P2P and other mature network technologies, a layered model resource discovery mechanism is proposed combining both distribution and concentration mechanism. It can meet system expansion without too much network communication which a distribution mechanism will produce. Based on the P2P technology, the mechanism can realize the self-organizing resource interacting, and do well in scalability and robustness. Meanwhile, key issues such as resource description, resource registration ,updating, and matching inquiries are well analyzed, and detailed solutions are also given.On the basis of the model, a two-layer resource discovery mechanism with the method of dividing resource clusters by standard resource type is designed and realized. And a detailed commentary on the designing and realizing of resource organizing, P2P-DHT dissemination strategy, resource discovery mechanism and so on are made. At last, simulation experiment proves that the method has excellent scalability and efficient performance matching inquiries.
