The machine vision is researched mainly about the simulation of person's visual function with the computer, and creates and restores the real world model with the image, finally is used in practical detection, measure and control. As a new detection technology, the machine vision is provided by modern industry the huge demand space. To detect the emission height of firecracker, the paper adopt the machine vision technology .The detection of explored point target belongs to the category detection of moving target. In the process of detecting explored point target, extracting background, detecting moving target and target orientation & tracking are the primary content. Base on these, the paper makes a great deal of works done and puts forward the feasible algorithm. In the stage of extraction background, paper puts forward a background making and updating algorithm that depends on marking matrix. In the stage of detecting the explored point,the target area is obtained by difference method between current frame and fro-frame, between current frame and background frame, and then making two results carry the"&"operation. The noise in the result image are removed by median filtering and mathematics morphological method. In the stage of explored point orientation & tracking, the target point is located depending on kind of improved area grow-up segmentation algorithm base on area gray difference, afterward, the explored point target center pixel is obtained by carrying a series of image segmentation algorithm such as image gradient, extracting target brim character, thinning target brim, removing scatter point in the target area, obtaining target center and so on. All these operation provide help for drawing moving explored point target track. Experimental results indicates that all explored point targets can be extracted successfully from the image sequence of firecracker, and then the vertex pixel can be found from the moving track which is drawn according the explore point's sequence centers. Further, according to the vertex pixel, the actual Firecracker emission Height is detected.
