In recent years, as the rapid development of infrared technology, particularly the infrared technology widely used in Modern Military. The research of small target detection and tracking is critical to improve the performance of modern military weapons and equipment.The infrared of small target in the sky background has been greatly attenuated after long-range transport in the atmosphere. On the other hand, the target have also been interferences by the system noise, Therefore, the existing infrared target detection and tracking technology, which is difficult to apply in complex situations, are sill needed to be further studied.This thesis mainly focuses on the practical application of an infrared warning system, and researched on the method for single frame detection of the small target infrared in the sky background. The main contents are listed as follows:1. A new method for target Segmentation based on adaptive adjustment of threshold is proposed, and the method of background estimation is optimized.2. The method for rapid detecting and tracking target based on consecutive frames have been researched according to the inter-frame correlation of the frames, and the ways to improve the system reliability have been further studied.3. The non-uniformity causes and corrections of infrared detector have been summarized, and an image preprocessing method used to suppress residual non-uniformity has been proposed in this thesis.The result shows that the signal quality, probability of detection and system stability has been improved by using above methods.In conclusions, the small target detection and tracking technique are discussed an investigated in detail. The results obtained here are very essential to further researches and application.
