The internet has been developing in a rapid speed since themid-1990s and is called the 4th greatest invention of mass media in thehistory of human civilization. following broadcast, newspaper and TV.The study on internet becomes a new researching field at home andabroad.The paper is a comparative study on "the 18th Statistical SurveyReport on Internet Development in China" by China Internet InformationCenter(CNNIC, July 2006) and "the State of the News Media——anAnnual Report on American Journalism" by the Project for Excellence inJournalism (PEJ,2006) affiliated with the Columbia University GraduateSchool of Journalism, USA. And the paper theoretically analyzes thedifferent paradigms between American and Chinese research on internetwith these two reports. It aims to indicate the validity of Kuhn's paradigmon the study of internet with different aspect by comparing the guidingprincipals, purpose, division, same or similar content and analyses of thedifferent content.The paper is the first attempt to introduce "SONM" to Chineseinternet research field and is also the first to analyze American andChinese researching on internet with paradigm theory.
