In order to meet the open and flexible requirements of next generation network, ForCES working group of Internet Engineering Task Force in routing area proposes architecture of router with the separation of Forwarding Element and Control Element. IPv6 is one of key technology of next generation network, therefore realizes to IPv6 the support in the ForCES router has become an important research direction in ForCES working group.This paper firstly researches several key technology in the implementation of ForCES router, such as: (1) according to ForCES FE model the IPv6 LFBs are modeled, including: IPv6 Validator LFB,IPv6 UcastLPM LFB,IPv6 NexthopApplicator LFB,ExtensionHeader LFB,IPv6 AddrResolution LFB,ICMPv6 LFB and EtherEncap LFB; (2) the mechanism of routing management in ForCES router is studied and the problems of multiple routing protocoles management and synchronization of routing table are resolved; (3) in order to run IPv6 protocol in CE the technology of Virtual Interface Device Driver (VIDD) is adopt. The paper proposes the detailed architecture of IPv6 subsystem in ForCES router based on research results above. The result of test indicates that the function of the IPv6 subsystem is validated. The architecture proposed by this paper testifies the feasibility of ForCES specification and provides the important technical parameter for the ForCES application.
