ForCES (Forwarding and Control Element Separation) is a well-known IETF academic group engaged in the research of open programmable networks. The basic idea is to accelerate the upgrade of networks and the deployment of new applications through separation of the Control Element (CE) from the Forwarding Element (FE) in a ForCES router. ForCES Router must support network manmagement as the basic requirements. Now the SNMP is the actual industry criterion for network management, therefore this thesis is devoted on how to support the SNMP network management in ForCES router. The research team we now work on is one of the authors in ForCES. As an important part of Research on Open Programmable Router Protocol GRMP that supports Multi-Service Switch, this thesis mainly studies and completes the design and implementation of the network management module in ForCES.First, we briefly introduce the network management and the SNMP. Next, we analyze the network management in ForCES according to the ForCES framework and the ForCES requirements. Further, we design three schemes: the qusia entrust agent, the AgentX and the multiagent. After comparing the advantages and the limitations of the three schemes, the thesis also introduces the implementation of the qusia entrust agent in detail. including the MIB, the CE SNMP mode, the interfaces between the SNMP module with the CE SNMP module and the SNMP server. As a whole, in the ForCES-based router system, we have initially implemented the SNMP module that can work with ForCES. Our test experiments show that it can satisfy the requirements of the network management. The test result also testifies the applicability of the network management in ForCES.
