One of the important characteristic about the next generation network is opening. ForCES is one of the IETF Working Groups in Routing Area, which primarily researches on the framework and protocols of open programmable IP router. The main idea is to accelerate the update of networks and the deployment of new applications through separating the Control Elements from the Forwarding Elements in network elements. Network Processor combines ASIC's high performance and general processors's programmable characteristics and suits well for network processing tasks. Currently, it's a new trend to combine the network processor and ForCES technology to implement the network element in router research area. The research team we work on participates in the ForCES protocol design.This thesis primarily researches the design and implementation of LFB library in ForCES router software model. LFB library is an aggregate of functions, which configure and manage the LFB attributes. It's design and implementation include the following key points: distill the configurable attribute of LFB and define the operation types according to the ForCES architecture; after having a plentiful research on the structure and theory of Intel network processor's IXA portability framework, the LFB library is implemented based on the IPv4 application examples and many usefully function of IXA-SDK4.1.
