The acquisition, display and control of data is an important part in the field of information and auto control system. USB is popular for its low-cost, easy-operation, highly expansibility, PnP supported and so on. The paper combines USB with the traditional data acquisition technology and provides a convenient, universal, PnP data acquisition system.This paper starts with the detailed discussion of USB, bus- criterion, and communication protocol. Then the design of the data acquisition and display system is provided which covers hardware module and software module. As a whole, the following is contributed in this paper:As for the hardware system, It focuses on the theory of data acquisition system, the design of data acquisition circuit, the analysis of the circuit, especially the choice for the interface chip of USB. D12 of PHILIPS is adopted in this system and its structure, function and typical circuit is presented in detail.As for the software system, the emphasis lies on the realization of software system, which involves the following 3 sides: Programming of the firmware driver; programming of the system driver; programming of client application. The paper provides the programming module of WDM(Windows Diver Model) USB driver to develop the firmware driver, that makes use of C++ builder6.0, Driver Studio and Win2000DDK; programming of the system driver achieves the communication between the USB interface and PC; programming of client application achieves the data display, storage, other control function and so on. The GUI design and data display are completed in this module with C++ builder 6.0.In this paper, I/O control and acquisition of analog signals are realized; also how to develop the whole system is described that is propitious to farther develop.
