With the rapid development of semiconductor and software design technology, the embedded systems based on embedded microprocessor and RTOS (Real-time Operating System) are widely used in virtue of its advantages such as excellent performance, higher reliability, lower power dissipation, smaller cubage and so on. During the product development, a uniform design platform comprising hardware and software is urgently expected in order to save the cost, reduce the repetition of similar work, enhance the reusability of software and hardware module, and shorten the time to market. In this paper, a development platform for timing application system is studied and carried out, which takes the 32 bit embedded processor AT91RM9200 and RTOSμC/OS-II as the core part. And then, the time service signal unit for the rebuilding project of Shanghai Seacoast Broadcasting Station's shortwave time service system is accomplished by use of this platform. The equipments are put to normal operation in April, 2006.This paper mainly includes following three parts. Firstly, the features and in circuit resources about processor AT91RM9200 are introduced. The processor board is designed in detail, which integrates some common parts such as FLASH, SDRAM, Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485, USB, FPGA, and expand interface to connect extended card. Secondly, the migration of RTOSμC/OS-II to AT91RM9200 is achieved, and some fundamental software blocks including keyboard, LCD, Timer/Counter, Clock, and UART are designed to enrich the operating system's function. Besides, hardware testing block is discussed. Thirdly, the scheme of time service signal unit for SSBS is roundly presented and put into effect using the platform mentioned above.The platform designed in this paper is not only used for time application system, but also considered as a reference to other embedded system application design.
