With the rapid development of the human economic, political and cultural activities as well as the progress of the science and technology, the exchange of information between people has increased frequently. Therefore, more and more forms of communication have been brought up. Voice and image have the merits of intuition and rich content. In the daily life of humanity, the majority of information is received through hearing and vision. So, the introduction of voice and video, especially the comprehensive use of them not only enriches the content of the communication, but also fits the feature that people receive the external information. Video conference is a fast-growing new business in recent years. In order to create a video conference system, it is unavoidable to locate entities, create and describe the session. Both of H.323 and SIP are the most mature signaling protocols currently. Compared with H.323, SIP is more flexible, adaptive and simple. It is excellent to study SIP to develop video conference system.First, this thesis in brief introduces the conditions of video conference at present, describes the basic conception, functions and features of SIP protocol and compare it with the H.323 protocol; Second, this thesis also in detail presents the composition and components of the SIP along with the SIP signal format and the process of initializing the call; The RTP protocol and SDP protocol are also analyzed in this paper; Finally, this thesis explains the popular prototype of video conference and the main frame of conference system; Through the analysis of video conference and the study of conference type, this paper designs the system of video conference based on SIP, implements the key functions of terminal signal control and conference process control in the SIP video conference on the basis of analyzing the main function modules and SIP stack. Finally, all of the job is concluded.
