In this dissertation, particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm is used to multi-channel polarization-mode dispersion(PMD) compensation, based on wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) systems multi-channel PMD compensation for the worst-performing channel. The worst channel is compensated and the performance of other channels is guaranteed at the same time. And two-channel PMD compensation system as an example, a numerical simulation has been a good compensation effect. In addition to, the simulation based on PMD compensation of some new-style formats (such as return zero format (RZ) with 33% duty cycle and 50% duty cycle respectively, carrier suppressed RZ format(CSRZ) in a two-channel system is given. Also, the phase matching of biaxial crystal is discussed.The research works in the dissertation are summarized as follows:(?)The basic concepts of PMD, their numerical models used as emulation, the distribution of the first-and higher-order PMD and compensation schemes are reviewed and summarized compendiously.(?) For PMD compensation of multi-channels in WDM systems, the worst-performing channel is compensated and at the same time other channels' performance are also improved. So the simulation model for PMD compensation in muti-channels is founded and PSO algorithm is introduced in it. The two-channel PMD compensation system as an example, PSO algorithm is applied to PMD compensation in a two-channel system and the results show that it is effective to two-channel PMD compensation.(?) By numerical emulation, the eye diagram before and after compensation, the relationship between DGD and wavelength before and after compensation are given, and the numerical simulation result satisfies the requirement of the system.(?)The simulation based on PMD compensation of some new-style formats such as return zero format (RZ) with 33% duty cycle and 50% duty cycle respectively, carrier suppressed RZ format(CSRZ) in a two-channel system is given.(?) Also the phase matching of biaxial crystal is discussed, and obtaind the phase matching angle formulas and the corresponding expression of effective nonlinear coefficient for all the possible phase-matching. And the phase matching of KN Crystal in 1.55pm wave band of optical communication is discussed for the first time.
