The research works in this dissertation are supported by following foundation: National Natural Science Foundation of China, No. 60072042, "The Study on the Technologies of Automatic Compensation for Polarization Mode Dispersion in High Bit Rate Optical Fiber Communication Systems". National Natural Science Foundation of China, No. 60377026, "The Study on Compensation and Experiments for Polarization Mode Dispersion in Wavelength Division Multiplexing Optical Fiber Communication Systems".With the development of the fiber communication to high bit rate, more channels , long distance and all fiber networks, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is considered to be one of the main obstacles for wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) optical fiber communication systems and now it has been a hot topic in recent years. The basic theory of PMD and PMD measurement and compensation methods are discussed in this paper. And the influence of PMD to WDM optical communication system and compensation methods are systematically investigated based on the theoretical analysis. At last, the feed-forward PMD compensation...
