The Design And Implementation Of IPTV Carrying Network Solutions

The speed of supplying IP value-added services has been accelerated by the rapid developing of IP technology and cosmical construction of IP MAN.The integration of data,voice and video is being seen as a major direction as the broadband MAN progresses.Consumers demand more on IP vaule-added services,especially video.While IPTV acts as a typical representation of the multimedia applications that carried by IP networks.To develop IPTV services successfully,it's necessary to have an advance research on the solution of carrying IPTV service on IP networks by the special request of it. As one of Zhejiang Telecom's pre-commercial trial IPTV project team leaguers, I have participated in the work of designing IPTV carrying network after studying the solutions of carrying IPTV service on IP networks.The course of domestic and overseas IPTV developing is retrospected in this paper.The quality request for networks of basic and value-added IPTV services is also analized. The technical solutions that suitable for IPTV services is discussed at the major levels of the carrying network according to the common circumstances of broadband network and the developing phases of IPTV services. Raw suggestions are made that select PPPoE as the access authentication method and multicast as the main technology on backbone network in the first developing phase of IPTV services,while select improved DHCP and multicast on whole network in the large-scale developing phase. In addition, the IPTV services carrying instance on Zhejiang Telecom's Broadband IP networks in pre-commercial trial is analyzed and discussed. And the solutions are affirmed to be feasible. The methods of network planning in the first phase are summed up also.
