Due to their uniqueness and stability, fingerprint are used as main basis of personal identity. AFIS(Automated Fingerprint Identification System), a technology of fingerprint identification using computer or high-performance CPU, is of convenience, high efficiency, reliability and security. It has been applied in many fields such as financial security, negotiable security, data encryption, IT, electronic business etc and will play a more and more important role in our life. This paper is about the development and design of the AFIS based on DSP. the structure of the system include three components, which is algorithm and hardware and software. In algorithm, we introduce the preprocessing and minutiae extraction and matching of the fingerprint in detail, especially provide a novel algorithm in matching. The algorithm not only could solve the problem of finding the referenced point of matching algorithm, but also don't need to considerate the influence angel and displacement when enrolling. In hardware, the main of the system consists of DSP (Digital Signal Processor) TMS320DM642 of TI and the sensor MBF200 of FUJITSU, and includes the circuit of sensor MBF200 and clock and interface of the external memory and power and human-machine interface etc. In software, CCS (Code Composer Studio) is introduced in detail, then we design the two level"Boot Loader"and compile the driver of MBF200.The highlights of our research work are the following: (1) Programming the preprocessing and minutiae extraction makes the process is going to be done easier. (2) Provide a novel algorithm in matching. (3) Construct the hardware and the software system with TMS320DM642 On the basis of our self-owned algorithms.
