As the soul of embedded system, embedded software is constantly propagated and updated with the steps. Especially, when the embedded operating system was brought in, the embedded application software development is more portable and reusable. And it becomes an indispensable part of embedded software presently. The developing of embedded software techniques that base on embedded operation system is enlarging the application domain of embedded system.On-board monitoring system is a new applied aspect of embedded system. Combining with it, this thesis introduces the research and development of embedded software in construction machinery on-board monitoring system. In recent years, the developing of communication technique and man-machine interaction technique raised more new requirements to embedded software. Starting with these requirements, a construction machinery on-board monitoring system based on embedded Linux and ARM processor is designed in this paper and the application and implementation of embedded software in this system is researched here, too. First of all, considering the hardware platform of this system and the cost and cycle of development, embedded Linux is chosen as the embedded operation system. It is successfully ported to the construction machinery on-board monitoring system based on HMS30C7202. Secondly, the developing of character device driver in Linux system is researched and the designing of Linux driver for key devices in on-board monitoring system is finished. Thirdly, after analysed the trait of embedded GUI, we choose MiniGUI for designing embedded GUI in construction machinery on-board monitoring system. At the last part of this paper the concept of process and IPC in Linux system is introduced to build a multiple-process model in construction machinery on-board monitoring system. Linux application programs of two extended serial-port device in the system are introduced in this part too.The embedded software system designed in this paper improves the intelligence and networking in on-board monitoring system. As the result of successfully porting embedded Linux, the cost of developing embedded software in construction machinery on-board monitoring system is reduced and the efficiency of developing is improved. It is also an evidence for the excellent practicability and the application forground of the production in this paper.
