This thesis mainly deals with the relationship between Wang Yunwu and Taiwan Commercial Press during the period of 15 years from 1964 to 1979 when Wang Yunwu took charge of Taiwan Commercial Press before till his death.This paper consists of three parts in addition to the preface and the conclusion.Chapter one touches on the fact that Wang Yunwu assumed the responsibility of managing Taiwan Commercial Press. First investigated is the origin and the early operation history of the press. From 1946 on, the press gradually became independent. Its business, which was not all plain sailing, laid the foundation for its new rise in the 1960s. In 1964, Wang Yunwu resigned from the political arena and took charge of the press, becoming the director of the board. Although taking the great responsibility of rejuvenating the press at the age of 77, Wang made the press turn on a new leaf with his reform and ratification.Chapter two focuses on the contribution to Taiwan culture made by Taiwan Commercial Press. The publication from the press of the Political and Ideological history of China, compiled by Wang Yunwu for the sake of making Taiwan culture prosperous, played a leading role in the academic circle at that time and enhanced the prestige of the press. The publication of Anthology of Essays functioned actively in cultivating the reading atmosphere in Taiwan and raising the humanities awareness of young students. Then the consecutive republication of such renowned journals in the 20s and 30s as Oriental Journal, Educational Journal and Publication Monthly not only brought vigor and vitality to the press but also blew fresh air into the academic community in Taiwan.Chapter three concentrates on the influence upon the Taiwan masses exerted by the press. Wang Yunwu, the famous publisher directing the press, boasted rich life experiences and enjoyed a large social circle of interpersonal relations. After becoming the head of the press, Wang Yunwu gave full play to the charm of his characters and his profound knowledge and great talent. Under his efforts, Taiwan Commercial Press interacted with such important cultural institutes on the island as Taiwan Imperial Palace and Committee of Chinese Culture Rejuvenation Campaign, which gave birth to a cultural chain affecting the quality of Taiwan masses. This chain contributed significantly to guiding Taiwan compatriots to get out of the "cultural desert" formed due to various historical reasons and accepting Chinese culture.
