The rapid grow of digital TV product industry has brought a wide market to digital video processing chip. China is the most productive country of TV sets, however, video processing chips that are inside the core of TV sets almost all come from overseas companies. To research and develop video processing chip that has our independent intelligent property has extremely important realistic meaning to break the overseas technology monopoly and pull up our own nation industry.Video image quality is always the competitive focus point of TV sets companies. With various large screen and high definition TV such as LCD becoming the main current consumes, TV set companies and common consumers put forward more and more high request to image quality. Video enhancement algorithms that are used to improve image quality will be mainly discussed in this thesis.The video enhancement algorithms that are researched by this thesis include Luminance Peaking, DLTI, DCTI, BLE, WLE, Contrast, Brightness, Hue, Saturation Adjustment, Flesh Tone Correction, Blue Stretch and so on. Their principles, implementation methods, analysis and experiment results are presented by detail, some improvement methods are also proposed. The results show that, edges and details in the image will be more sharpen by peaking and DLTI, the contrast will be improved by BLE/WLE and Contrast/Brightness Adjustment. In the aspect of color, color transient will be improved by DCTI, colors will be more saturated and brilliant by Hue and Saturation algorithms. Because our eyes are sensitive to flesh tone and blue level, these colors are especially processed by FTC and Blue Stretch. All these video enhancement algorithms have been put into the digital video processing chip, and the chips have been batch produced.Because LCD has gradually become the major market, LCD display port are commonly supported in digital video processing chip. Some technologies that are specially used to improve LCD image quality are presented in this thesis, such as gamma correction to LCD, speeding up response time of LCD panel.
