With the development of Science and Technology, TV industry is facing the change from analog TV to Digital TV. TV market has two main trends: digital and high definition flat panel.Digital television (DTV) is a new generation system of which the sending and receiving of moving images and sound are all digital signals. Digital TV receiver includes the receiving, processing and display of the digital TV signal. Digital TV has more advantage in contrast to the analog TV.In the TV market, CRT is replaced by flat panel display now. Among the flat panels, LCD panel is the most mature one, which is used in various fields. The image of LCD TV is clear, distinct, bright and vivid. It has slim body, low power consumption. It has various connectors and can be connected with computer, DVD player, play station etc. and can meet digital broadcast requirement.The receiving and processing of DTV are for the channel and the signal. The receiving and processing of channel can ensure the signal same as the sending terminal. However, the processing of signal may output different subjective image quality due to the video processor. That means different video processors may have same function but different image quality. In this point, the video processor is the most important part of the DTV set. Video processor has more and more functions with the development of the VLSI and digital technic. There are many vendors of video processor in the DTV market. Different vendors have different solution with different arithmetic. How to speed up the image quality assessment of the video processor in the development becomes one hot point in the field.To keep the speed of the development, I propose a scheme of image quality assessment used in the development of digital LCD TV receiver, which can keep the company in a competitive position.This paper discusses the digital TV market and background, and then introduces the digital TV format standard and video processor. This paper research in the image quality assessment in three parts: video format conversion, image enhancement and LCD panel gamma correction.This paper introduces the functions about the video format conversion: standardization of analog input, luminance and chrominance separation, de-interlacing, scaling, frame rate conversion. Measure scheme and subjective assessment images are proposed based on each function.This paper discuss the conception of image enhancement,and analyse the function of luminance improvement, contrast adjustment, color space, color enhancement and noise reduction. Subjective assessment images are proposed based on the analyzing.This paper also proposed the measure method for the gamma correction of LCD panel based on the performance analyzing.Finally, this paper gives out the specific of the image quality assessment scheme and a application result. The result shows that this scheme can meet the requirement. The research will be deeply and cover more in the future.
