With the development and popularization of Internet, it greatly changes these ways of creation, distribution and consumption of digital works. But the mechanism of copyright protection on digital works is far from being mature. Therefore, in order to ensure every party's rights and keep value chain balance in digital works transaction market, the tech of Digital Rights Management (DRM) is essential for digital works' copyright protection.Nowadays, the issue of Digital Rights Management for cartoon derivative works is come out with the rapid development of cartoon industry. As the beginning of our research, the thesis pays much attention to solve this issue.Digital Rights Expression Language (REL) is the kernel of Digital Rights Management. It can express the information of authorization for digital works, and can manage the rights in the lifecycle of the digital works, at the same time it also can keep the ecosystem's balance of digital works distribution.By analyzing several existing digital rights expression languages, we can conclude that some drawbacks of the current rights expression language are lack of formal semantics, lack of dynamic evolution of rights, complexity of syntax and so on. Then combined with the issue of cartoon derivative works' copyrights, the thesis does some further research, the main work are as follows:1. Analyzing several existing rights expression languages, then analyzing their disadvantages.2. By researching and learning the theory of logic languages, extending a logic programming REL—LiscensScript, named RightScript, which is not only supported rights' static controls but also rights' evolvement, rights' formalization and rights' dynamic controls ,then give detailed introduction about the syntax, grammar, implementation mechanisms and other aspects of RightScript.3. Proposing the notion of rights scalability, and expressing the rights' scalable attribute by using RightScript and designing one rights' scalability calculation algorithm.4. Comparing most of rights expression languages with RightScript, bring forward the conclusion that RightScript possess important attributes that others have and proves its particular advantages: logic, dynamically, expressed, scalable.5. Designing one DRM system for copyrights protection of cartoon derivative works based on RightScript and giving an anatomy on the kernel party of system—license server.
