The Chinese traditional ink-wash art could be concretely divided into two parts, calligraphy and ink-wash painting. The Chinese Calligraphy incisively and vividly represents the spirit of pen and ink, and fully incarnate the sole of ink-wash art. Thus, the emulate of the work of Chinese Calligraphy aimed at innovation has positive function on inheriting and developing the traditional ink-wash art.As the rapid rise of the subject of computer art, people have done a lot of research and exploration on the way of simulating the practical painting, continuously introduced new technologies of processing graphics and images, and achieved some exciting success. Especially, some occidental painting have obtained outstanding achievements, such as oil painting and watercolor painting. At present, they have already presented relative mature emulational model, and have corresponding production be published.Digital art lets the artists leave the traditional studio, slip the leash of the primary material of painting which replaced by a virtual world composed of mouse, keyboard, electronic paintbrush and screen. Computer art implements an unheard-of amalgamation between different sorts of art, absorbs up to date achievements of computer graphics and images, and impels the development of itself while satisfying the demands of traditional art.The technology of computer emulate is not only an impact on the expressive way of traditional art, but also an advantaged method of inheriting and developing it creationaryly. It is an consummate combination of science and traditional art. The study of the emulate aimed at innovation on the works of Chinese calligraphy has far-reaching meanings, no matter in art or in science. And the corresponding interactive graphic system that be developed would have an extensive applied prospect. As the former modeling process of brush which needs to track and catch the instantaneous state of the movement of every hair of brush in three-dimensional space is excessively fussy and complex, we tempt to use an intuitionistic way to implement the stylized reappearance of the works of Chinese calligraphy in this paper. At the same time, introducing fractal theory to model basic actions of brush hairs, actualizing the special effect of dry brush by simulating the cloven behavior of true brush hairs, and hoping to obtain a display which have a certain extent of ink-wash characteristic effect. As the simulation of ink-wash art seldom use algorithms which combined with fractal theory, the attempt in the paper might provide an available effective way or method on the research of the emulate of ink-wash art.In this paper, we emphasize on the research of a stylized method, which based on fractal theory, of producing the effects of Chinese calligraphy according to the existing works, primarily discuss in several aspects as follow:Firstly, we present a general frame on the stylized computer simulation of effects of Chinese ink-wash art by summing up information and combining the basic flow of computer assistant emulate, and provide a stylized computer assistant method of producing the works of Chinese calligraphy which aimed at innovation.Secondly, the skeletons of the works of calligraphy is an important parameter in the study of producing stylized effects of Chinese ink-wash art, thus in this paper we discuss several existing typical algorithms which used to distill the skeletons. And aimed at the particularity of Chinese calligraphy which is different from any other form of art, based on the efficient thinning algorithm for binary images, a new thinning algorithm which fit for distilling the skeletons of the works of Chinese calligraphy is proposed.Thirdly, using existing virtual brush modes for reference and analyzing the cloven rule and the figure of the hair which formed in the movement of true brush, we find that the formative rule of the ink-wash effects of the works of Chinese calligraphy has a broad sense of self-comparability. Thus we tempt to import fractal theory to model the cloven process of brush hairs virtually, and implement the stylized fill with an ink-wash effect towards the skeletons of strokes. Accordingly, in this paper we actualize a stylized method of producing the works of Chinese calligraphy which display an innovative effect. The method used in this paper is easy to implement, and the results of experiments also proof that the outcome of calligraphy produced by the method have a certain extent of ink-wash character. The study has received the prospective purpose, as the meanwhile it might provide some available efficient referential directions to the further research. But the simulation process of the brush hair's cloven behavior which based on fractal theory is only an abecedarian discussion, considering that the process of leaving trace on rice paper by brushes could be abstracted as a course of filling in the stroke's scope thousandfold using a part of the brush head and according to some certain regulations or trace, and this macroscopical self-comparability has stupendous common character with IFS in the fractal theory. Thus, using fractal theory to amend the cloven algorithm of brush hairs adequately and the effects of ink-wash art which produced by computer become an emphasize on the research in the future. However, there still have many flaws, such as the cloven process depends on stochastic figures exorbitantly, and it could not produce new works of calligraphy but only characteristically reproduce the existing ones, etc. In further research, we must consider some effective methods to construct Chinese characters, and on this basis we could implement the reproduction of famous calligraphers. All these are exigent problems, which need to be solved in the research in future. As the charm of Chinese traditional ink-wash art itself and the dual meanings of computer art in science and art, the stylized method of producing artistic effects of ink-wash art, by computer, has gone much beyond the general significance of scientific simulation.
